Rangers 2, Senators 0

Welcome back to the goal scoring club Brandon Dubinsky and Lauri Korpikoski. Both snap long droughts. Enough with the monkey/piano off the back jokes already. All that was missing was a goal by Nik Zherdev. He was excellent tonight, although he'll make you dizzy at times circling in his own end.

Thank you Filip Kuba for the tip in the neutral zone to spring Petr Prucha on the breakaway. Too bad Petr did not score. He was typical Prucha earlier on the Rangers first goal, making things happen with his rear on the ice. How could he have been a healthy scratch for as long as he was?

Shame on Chris Neil, who's willing to pick a fight with Marc Staal, but when challenged by Colton Orr he shies away. The same guy who back in the first period shoots the puck into the protective netting above the rink and thinks he scored.

We interrupt this hockey report, as this is a Rangers and Mets blog after all: a game I did not expect to ever see again was airing as I was flipping channels during the first intermission- Game 7 2006 NLCS. We knew this would never air as a Mets classic on SNY, but then the MLB network came along. Wow, Aaron Heilman looked good in that 8th inning before giving up that homer in the 9th. Anyway...

That Ottawa Senators team is in shambles. It looks like they are tanking to get John Tavares in June.

Henrik Lundqvist made the saves he had to make and did not have to be spectacular. Let's hope his next game does not turn out to be like the game after his last shutout.

Next up, another Eastern cellar-dweller, that team from Nassau county.

In other news, Brendan Shanahan has agreed to a deal with the Devils. Good for him- unfortunately you kind of knew if it was not going to be the Rangers, it was going to be a rival team as he wanted to stay close to the city.
